Defeated by unemployment and the ghosts of the past, Bill Baker, an unemployed oil-rig worker from Stillwater, Oklahoma, travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter Allison, who has been imprisoned for five years for the murder of her girlfriend. Convinced of her innocence, he tries to reopen the case and prove the truth, despite language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system. As he pushes deeper into the investigation, he also struggles to rebuild his relationship with her.
