In post-World War I England, the quiet town of Littlehampton is shaken when conservative Edith Swan begins receiving anonymous letters filled with outrageous profanity. As the letters keep arriving, suspicion falls on Rose Gooding, a rowdy Irish migrant known for her blunt language and unruly behavior. But as the case develops, some of the townspeople and the police begin to wonder whether Rose is really to blame.
