In 18th-century colonial North America, a young George Washington meets his half-brother Lawrence after his father's death, and Lawrence becomes both a friend and mentor to him. A decade later, with Lawrence's help and guidance, George rises to the rank of lieutenant in Virginia's militia and is sent by the lieutenant governor to the Ohio River valley to demand that French settlers leave the territory. On the journey, Washington encounters Iroquois allies led by Tanacharison, and the French refusal leads to an attack and the outbreak of the French and Indian War.
