In Cairo, television reporter Charlie Cannon and his pregnant wife Larissa lose their young daughter Katie when she is kidnapped during a sudden sandstorm by a mysterious local woman. Eight years later, the broken family lives in Albuquerque with their teenage son Sebastian. Their world fractures again when Katie is discovered alive inside a sealed sarcophagus following an Egyptian plane crash. The family brings the catatonic, bandaged girl home to recover, but Katie soon exhibits violent, unnatural behavior, and a malevolent force begins to spread through the household.
