In 2003, news copywriter Kim Baker leaves her desk job in New York and takes a three-month assignment as an on-camera reporter in Afghanistan. Unprepared for the danger and the harsh realities of life there, she is helped by fellow correspondent Tanya Vanderpoel and Afghan translator-guide Fahim Ahmadzai. As she finds her footing, Kim discovers both a voice in the press corps and the personal risks of becoming deeply absorbed in the war zone.
