Frank Adler lives in a coastal Florida town and is raising his young niece Mary, a child prodigy, by himself. He hopes she can have a normal school life, but that plan is threatened when her mathematical gifts come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother Evelyn. Evelyn has her own ideas about Mary’s future, and is willing to fight for them even if it means separating Mary from Frank.
