A Nobel Prize-winning writer, Daniel Mantovani, is a bitter, world-weary intellectual who has lived in Europe for decades after leaving Argentina. He routinely turns down invitations to appear at prestigious venues around the world, but he unexpectedly accepts a letter from his hometown of Salas, which invites him to return and be named an honorary citizen. The visit soon turns into the worst idea of his life, as old relationships, resentments, and the consequences of turning real people into characters in his novels come back to haunt him.
