Early 18th century. England is at war with the French, but life at court goes on. A frail Queen Anne sits on the throne while her close friend Lady Sarah effectively runs the country. When a new servant, Abigail, arrives, she wins Sarah's favor and sees a chance to return to her aristocratic roots. As Abigail draws closer to the Queen, she becomes embroiled in a struggle for influence where ambition, loyalty, and power are all at stake.
