Teenager Sarah Quinn lives with her mother Kathy and younger brother Sonny in Wardenclyffe, New York. While trying to work toward her dream of getting into Columbia University, Sarah and her brother's friend Sam discover a locked manuscript in an abandoned house and accidentally bring Slappy the Dummy to life. Slappy gains the boys' trust by helping with chores and homework, but he soon begins causing trouble that spirals into chaos across the town.
