Following her aunt's death, Colleen and her daughters inherit her house. During their first night in the new home, murderers break in, and Colleen must fight to save her daughters. The night leaves the girls deeply traumatized: Beth grows up to become a successful horror author in Los Angeles with a seemingly perfect life, while Vera is unable to cope and falls into paranoia. Sixteen years later, the family reunites at the house, and strange events begin to occur.
