Coming to terms with the death of his mother, Alex turns to astral projection in an attempt to reconnect with her. As a metaphysics student, he learns of the scientific possibility of a dimension outside our own, but his experiments soon draw the attention of shadow spirits—malevolent entities that want to enter his body and access our world. He also discovers that his family has been haunted by such beings before, and that his mother's past may hold the key to what is happening now.
